Milk Production and Processing on Farms in Mochnaczka Community
Project no 27-0627-01

Farmers of Mochnaczka community are very glad and proud of being HPI project participants. It was the first initiative of this kind in the area which brought so many advantages to the farmers and stimulated them to start working together for local society development.

Mr. Pawel Ogorzały has been a member of our association since it started. He and his wife work together on their farm of 10 hectares of land, which Pawel inherited after his parents. The farm has been always run in a traditional way and Pawel has been working on it very hard for his entire life. The farm is not very small, but the quality of soil is extremely low - only 5th and 6th grade. It limits the farmâ??s production production to growing grains with low soil requirements and to maintaining the grasslands /3/4 of grasslands are /3/4 of the total farm area that the are grasslands. Having such good pastures it was natural for the family of Ogorzaly to keep cattle on the farm. Most of the agricultural production was used for family consumption, but some milk was always sold to the local dairy, creating the main source of income for the family.

Pawel and Anna are young and energetic people and have been always dreaming about development of their farm. Unfortunately, they didnâ??t have enough funds to be invested into the changes. They were still hoping, however, that some day they would be able to build a modern and well equipped farm that would become a future work place for their son Adrian, who is now only 2 years old.

When they found out about HPI activity in the region they decided to take an advantage of that opportunity and joined our association immediately. At that time they had three cross breed milking cows in their barn. Thanks to their participation in HPI project, they received 2 Polish Red heifers. The gift of heifers changed their life completely in a very positive way. These beautiful breeding animals motivated Ogorzaly family to take actions and to improve their life. Having five animals in their barn made them eligible for a special governmental program for young farmers. They were accepted for that program and got support that allowed them to modernize the farm buildings and meet EU standards for milk producers. Moreover, a hay trailer bought and a device for sweeping of manure with a conveyor belt was installed.

Currently, Anna and Pawel have nine cows in their barn and are planning to enlarge their herd. They would love to have a herd of pure Polish Red breed cows and this is their next dream. They already know that dreams can come true and this is why they believe in their success.

2 HPI heifers provided to the family of Ogorzaly became a magic seed for making improvements on the farm and for thinking about having a pure breed herd of Polish Red cows in the future. The Ogorzalysâ?? are fully aware of that and are grateful for assistance provided to them by HPI.
