Development of Sheep Breeding in Polish Part of The International Biosphere Reserve "Eastern Carpathian"
No. 27-0645-21-1

This project is located in southeastern Poland within the boundaries of Polish part of the International Biosphere Reserve "Eastern Carpathian", a region legally protected to preserve biological uniqueness and beauty. The area of the Reserve is either strictly or partially protected by laws. These restrictions limit development of industry that results in high unemployment rate of 40 percent. Environmentally friendly sheep breeding, therefore, seems to be a good solution for improving situation of poor local families. There are partly open areas in the Reserve, which can be legally used as pastures by sheep breeders who own small farms. Unfortunately farmers can't afford to buy good quality sheep to start their production. HPI will assist them to become sustainable in the future through providing 10 selected families with 20 Black Face meat breed sheep each. Another 20 families will join the project through the passing on the gift. This project will ensure improvement of nutrition and increase income of at least 30 rural families in the region of Eastern Carpathians. It will also contribute significantly to protection of the environment.
