Sheep Project for Farmers in Podkarpacie Region
No. 27-0615-01

This project is located in southeastern Poland which is the most agricultural region of the country. In the past wool sheep breeding was very popular and profitable there. Polish sheep coats and other wool products were successfully sold abroad and willingly bought by Poles all over the country. However, world wide crisis on wool market had strong influence on the farmers of Pokarpacie region. Population of sheep decreased considerably, since the sheep breeders faced serious problems with selling their wool products at profitable prices. The economic transformation of the country resulted in collapse of many state farms and local enterprises in this region. In order to prevent the farmers from falling into poverty HPI decided to provide 40 farm families of this region with mutton breed sheep. The aim of this project is to improve genetic value and productivity of the animals that would lead to improvement of the familiesâ?? income and reduction of unemployment in rural areas of the region.
