Small - scale Sheep Production for Sustaining Agriculture No. 27-0642-01
This project is directed to the group of farmers, who live in four villages of the Brody Ilzeckie community in the central region of the country. This part of Poland is recognized as very poor and difficult for development of profitable agricultural activities. Most of the land consists of sandy and clay soil. About 71 percent of the community area is overgrown with forests. Neglected meadows and waste lands are common sights in landscape there. The farmers from this community try very hard to make their living, but it is not easy for them, since they have just 2-3 hectares of poor quality and fragmented grounds. They mainly possess stretches of grass lands that are not used because they lack the animals to inhabit them. Even those, who have a few animals, produce only food for their families' supply and don't have money to develop their production. Responding to the needs of local families, HPI office decided to assist them through initiating meat sheep breeding project. In the framework of the project 10 poor farmers will receive 15 good quality ewes each. Additional 20 families will be included into project activities and will receive ewes through passing on the gift procedure. There is a very good market for sheep meat and the prices are quite satisfactory, so there is a great chance for the poor farmers of Brody Ilzeckie to make living for their families from this sheep breeding development.
The project is managed by the Familiar Farmers' Group of Brody Ilzeckie.
