Milk and Eggs Alleviate Poverty
No. 27-0629-01

Wlodawa Community is located in the eastern Poland, by Ukrainian and Byelorussia borders. This is a very agricultural, remote and economically depressed region. Industry has not been developed there, since most of the land is protected by national park laws. The only way of living for the local population is to be involved in farming. Currently, low prices for agricultural products make it very difficult for farmers to provide for their families. To ease the situation HPI will provide 25 Simmental heifers and 1300 six week old chickens to 25 farm families selected for the project. These families will use the milk and eggs mainly for their own consumption. Their agricultural products surplus will be sold on the local market to generate family income.
