4 H Clubs Protecting the Environment No. 27-0628-01
The project is located in Świętokrzyskie Mountains area - central part of the country - in rural areas around the city of Kielce. This rural region is one of the poorest in Poland where the majority of people (57% of the population) make their living from farming on small patches of land. .
HPI project is to help 100 children from seven 4H Clubs in the region of Kielce city to put into practice their educational program on natural resources protection. It has been designed to deepen environmental awareness and to reduce environmentally harmful practices of local communities' members. Through participation in the project children will obtain in depth knowledge about uniqueness and richness of the nature in their region as well as about importance of its protection. They will also learn to be responsible for their surroundings, according to saying: "Think globally, act locally". As a final product of the project each of the 4H club will prepare an educational - environmental path with illustrated guidebook to be used as an educational tool by local biology teachers and as a tourist attraction for visitors to the region.
HPI experience in working with the 4H children shows that their involvement into projects' activities has a positive influence on the attitudes of their parents and other adults from the village communities. It is expected, therefore, that thanks to their educational initiative, many environmentally friendly practices will be introduced to the region.
