Revitalization of Livestock in Lipsk and Sztabin Communities No. 27-0616-01
This project is designed to improve nutrition and financial situation of the farmers in the Lipsk and Sztabin communities. Both of the communities are located in the south east Poland close to the great Mazurian Lakes. A devastating frost of 2000 and a drought the following summer nearly wiped out crops and grasslands in this part of Poland. Up to 90 percent of green crops were lost. Lacking feed, farmers were forced to sell more than half of their cattle and swine for as little as 25 percent of their value. Since farming is the predominant way of life in this region, and there is no industry to offer employment, farmers are now struggling with the loss of their source of livelihood. HPI project will replenish the livestock of thirty five families by providing them with thirty Holstein heifers and twenty five Polish Landrace sows.
